SUMMER 2010
COMMUNITY CALENDAR OF EVENTS

NAMASTE:  A Photographic Interpretation of Yoga Practice,
by Marian Krauthamer
Artist Statement:  When invited by Omega to create a photographic experience for the summer of 2009, yoga seemed a viable option because it is an integral part of Omega's curriculum and an integral part of my own life.  Merging this physical/spiritual practice with the visual/spiritual art of photography resulted in what I believe are truly soul-filled images that now represent an emerging and a continuous body of work.  A practice in itself.  I found that in the process of capturing yoga practitioners in their practice reflected back to me what I seek in my own life: being more meditative, contemplative and finding more in less.  The essence of the show is that yoga is not about perfection, but being alive and focused in the practice. This show is not a manual, rather an attempt to capture the beauty and subtlety of the human form in yogic practice, which embodies strength, agility, grace, meditation, beauty, form and serenity.  It was my intent to capture the asanas or postures, the transitions between asanas, or the bodies at rest.  I shot this series anonymously in order to surrender the "ego".  All participants are yoga instructors or committed practitioners.  NAMASTE  is the composite of two Sanskrit words, one translation:    The light within me honors the light within you. Sacred Sound Journey with Rosie and Henry:  The Healing Sound Journey is a powerful group meditation facilitated by sound healing practitoners Henry Steffes and Rosie Warburton, which uses ancient and modern musical instruments specifically noted for their healing properties.  The instruments they have collected over the years include Himalayan singing bowls, gongs, flutes from around the world, didgeridoos, crystal bowls and more.  The unique layering and blending of the healing tones create an acoustic soundscape which opens doors and allows the participants to explore the depths of their own consciousness.  Reports of visions, out-of-body-experiences, and physical healings are not uncommon after a Sound Journey. Rosie has been exploring sound as a healing modality since 1991 and opened the first sound healing center in Florida in January 2005, the Sound Body Wholistic Health Center.  She teaches classes and workshops on sound healing, and facilitates small and large groups, conferences and retreats throughout the United States.  She is currently writing a book on the healing power of sound based on her personal experience and her continuing work as a practitioner. Henry is a Licensed Massage Therapist, a powerful energyworker and a lifelong musician and lover of music, who began incorporating sound into his healing practice after he began working and studying with Rosie in 1998.  As a practitioner at the Sound Body Wholistic Health Center he combines sound therapy with body and energy healing techniques.  Together they create a safe space through the use of sacred sound, where one can drop quickly and deeply into their true nature, that of peace and joy, releasing all fear and its manifestations.  Dramatic shifts and profound healing can occur when one accesses this place of true freedom for even a moment.
